The client selected a unique L shaped 14,500 sq ft plot and tasked us to design a high end luxury villa with a segregated outhouse for entertainment. Since the site was very peculiar in terms of shape & with no edges parallel to each other and plot located at the end of a cul-de-sac, we planned main façade of building at an angle to the main road. The juxtaposition of these 2 geometries brought about an interesting plan with a dynamic façade. The negative spaces were assigned to toilets, kitchen & backyard.
This villa was to accommodate a joint family with young children. The spaces needed to cater to the adults & children. There was a focus on spaces for entertaining guests casually in the family lounge or hosting parties in the outhouse. There was also a requirement for large & safe open spaces for the young children to play and older members to soak the winter sun. The clients were very keen to have a colonial influence visible in the architecture of the villa as well as the interiors.
Hierarchy of spaces are planned in such a way that public, semi private & private areas are distinguished from each other and give privacy to residents. Entrance lobby divides the formal drawing room from the family lounge. Double height dining area visually connects the upper floor to the lower floor.
The outhouse hosts a 20 seater den, a indoor gym, a jacuzzi & sauna space. There is an open garage to fit 3 cars. The servant rooms with their own kitchen & open terrace is carefully tucked away above this garage giving them their privacy yet visually disconnecting them from the main area.
The landscape open area is divided into two parts. With a family recreational area connected to the family lounge via a covered verandah and a more formal lawn space between drawing room & the outhouse. This can also double up as a space to host gatherings with driveway & garage also become part of this space.
The interiors were very meticulously designed taking input from all family members, accommodating their requirement & marrying it with the overall design aesthetics. We aimed for a rustic & timeless aesthetic with very natural material pallet. Each furniture item & accessory was carefully designed and curated to achieve the overall look.
